Tuesday, 18 January 2287

The Sun reaches its southern limit and turns north: Uttarāyaṇa begins, the most auspicious turn of the year. What is done, A pre-dawn bath (the Gaṅgā-snāna and the Kumbha bathing are timed to it), sesame-and-jaggery (til-gud) shared with the words "speak sweetly," charity, and the harvest feast, Pongal cooked till it boils over, for plenty.
