Monthly Vratas & Solar Transits
Beyond the annual calendar, Vedic tradition anchors spiritual discipline in cyclical monthly observances sacred to Śiva, Gaṇeśa, and Skanda, alongside the twelve sidereal solar transits of Sūrya.
Pradoṣam (Pradoṣa Vrata)
Observed on the thirteenth tithi (Trayodaśī) of both the waxing and waning fortnights during the twilight hour around sunset (Pradoṣa-kāla). Legend recounts how Lord Śiva drank the Hālāhala poison to protect the universe and danced on the head of Nandi between the horns of the evening.

Monthly Caturthī
Dedicated to Lord Gaṇeśa, the remover of obstacles. The two fortnights observe two distinct rituals: Vināyaka Caturthī (Śukla, midday Madhyāhna worship) and Sankaṣṭī Caturthī (Kṛṣṇa, day-long fast broken only after sighting the moon).
When Sankaṣṭī falls on a Tuesday, it becomes Aṅgārakī Caturthī, bestowing the fruit of a whole year's fasts.
Ṣaṣṭhī Vrata
Observed on the sixth tithi of the waxing fortnight, sacred to Lord Skanda (Kārttikeya, Murugan, Subrahmaṇya). Devotees observe fasting and chant the Skanda Ṣaṣṭhī Kavacam. The waxing Ṣaṣṭhī of Kārtika month is celebrated as the grand Skanda Ṣaṣṭhī, commemorating the victory over demon Soorapadman.
Destroys enemies and fear, cures chronic illnesses, and grants offspring (Santāna).

Saṅkrānti (Solar Transits)
The exact astronomical moment the Sun enters a new sidereal rāśi (zodiac sign). The four cardinal transits include Makara Saṅkrānti (Uttarāyaṇa harvest), Karka Saṅkrānti (Dakṣiṇāyana), Meṣa Saṅkrānti (Solar New Year, Viṣu, Puthāṇḍu), and Tulā Saṅkrānti (Kāverī bath).
Auspicious 16 ghaṭikās (~6.5 hrs) around transit for sacred bath (snāna) and charity (dāna) of sesame, cows, and food.
